We love our hairy four-legged friends and enjoy seeing them run free in all weathers. Designing a drying coat that was comfortable and cosy for our dogs to wear and made from sustainable, high quality materials was the mission behind the BooDoggo Drying Robe. Other coats on the market we found too cumbersome and restrictive for our dogs, particularly around the shoulder area. In addition, large areas of hairy wetness were entirely missed by the towelling, especially between the fore legs.
So why bamboo? Heavy thick cotton towelling does not help the restrictive nature of the coats and has a tendency to go hard and harbour smells. The other choice of using a man-made microfibre doesn't sit well with us either. The sustainable bamboo towelling used by BooDoggo carries the Oekotex Standard 100 certificate, it is extremely light and super soft and retains these properties even after much washing. The fabric has the added bonus of being naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal and therefore resistant to odours and any potential irritation to your dogs skin. The prototype robes were made some time ago now and they still look & feel as lovely as when they were new.
The first designs were trimmed with man-made materials as this was all we could source at the time. We wanted to avoid the use of man-made velcro not only because it is unfriendly to the planet but it also has a tendency to collect dirt & hairs and be noisy. To be in-keeping with the organic & sustainable nature of the bamboo towelling, the new 2022 design uses stylish and quality eco-friendly trims which have been made especially for BooDoggo. The fastenings and labels are made from recycled plastics and bottles and the webbing is organic cotton. To support this, all of the packaging is kept to a minimum and is completely compostable or biodegradable.
The enhanced design, also goes further with it's dog-friendly shaping by incorporating a double-layered 'curved' tummy piece to avoid the 'male bits' and any accidental sprinkles. The curve-shaped adjustable snood has been further enhanced to be double-layered and may be worn forward around the ears or looks very smart when folded back. The centre top of the snood includes an opening for the attachment of a lead if desired and there is also a loop which may be used for hanging the robe to dry and store. The wider shaped back panel provides stability and helps prevent side slippage. The robes are easy to put on and take off and as there is no need to lift and bend any legs, the design is also suitable for dogs with conditions restricting movement.
We are now very excited to be working in partnership with a local UK manufacturer. This means that we now have a healthy stock of beautiful Ready to Wear Robes in a choice of five gorgeous colours, available for immediate purchase & despatch. In addition, we will still be offering our Bespoke service for those who's pooches may not fit the standard sizing or would like to choose from one of our limited edition colours.
Our design has been trialed amongst our agility & dog dancing friends who have very kindly allowed us to borrow their beautiful dogs as models for pattern making and photographs.
